The GRPI Method
“As a smaller organization we were struggling with structure and staying on task. Implementing the G.R.P.I. tool has changed the way we operate. We are now 100% aligned, committed, and accountable to our organizational goals.”
-Leroy Peoples
Executive Director of the PIM Project and 2020 Pinnacle-LFF Strong Leaders Alumni
The GRPI method is hands-down the best tool to plan and assess for your organization.
At Pinnacle, we’ve used the GRPI model for team effectiveness for over 30 years. Learn more about the Pinnacle Leadership Model.
GRPI was developed by Michael Brim, Ram Charan, Dale Lake, Hirtaka Takeuchi, Noel M. Tichy. It is:
- A model to assess team performance.
- A planning tool to jumpstart a key initiative.
- A method to keep teams aligned.
“G” is for Goals. Are the goals clear and people committed to them? Oftentimes, simply asking team members that one question uncovers all sort of alignment and commitment issues you can tackle. Without clear goals you will go nowhere.
“R” is for Roles and Responsibilities. The work is organized in a way which clearly leads to accomplishing the team’s goals.
“P” is for Process. Process refers to “how” the team collaborates, communicates and functions.
“I” is for Interpersonal Relationships. This refers to the way in which team members relate to one another. Is there trust and openness in communication and relationships? We’ve often found if a team is stuck in the “I” – go to the “G”. It all starts with goals.
