Youth Leadership
“When you do the common things of life in an uncommon way, you will command the attention of the world.”
-George Washington Carver
We must support the development of our next generation of leaders, and it starts with investing in youth leadership opportunities. Similar to youth from other major cities, young people from Dorchester, Roxbury and Mattapan (DRM) have very few opportunities to explore the outdoors. Studies have shown that challenging outdoor adventures help urban youth become better prepared for adulthood by helping them gain confidence, leadership skills, and a deeper connection to nature.
We ensure that young people have access to Pinnacle LTD, inviting them to participate in high quality leadership programming through experiential learning. In 2019, with the help of the Lewis Family Foundation, we supported over 1,000 young people from 23 unique Boston nonprofits to experience Pinnacle programming and the Alnoba property. Five of those visits were overnight trips, giving youth the opportunity to experience the outdoors under the stars.
