Nearly 350 8th-11th graders from the Boston Spine participated in CollegeWorks held in Kensington, New Hampshire on Saturday, October 21, 2012.

CollegeWorks is a collaboration initiative between Grand Circle Foundation, Bottom Line and community partners in the Boston Spine – the neighborhoods of Dorchester, Roxbury and Mattapan.  The goal is to more than double the number the number of students from the Spine to 400 who receive a 4-year college degree by 2018.  Grand Circle Foundation will invest and leverage more than $10 million over the next 5 years.

Goals of CollegeWorks 2012 include:

  • To provide inspiration and information to students from the Spine to achieve the dream of a 4-year college degree
  • To provide an experiential learning expereience for students to develop confidence and their personal leadership
  • To celebrate community and have fun

The sunny Saturday in October included 35 teams of students who were each assigned a Youth Leader and a Grand Circle Associate.  Each team went through a series of three initiatives that related to college success while concurrently, more than 70 community-based organization leaders gathered for a leadership discussion with Alan and Harriet Lewis.

The program concluded with a skit competition and a large BBQ before the students were bussed back home.  The event was a huge success and we look forward to CollegeWorks 2013!
